You probably already know that Patrick Stewart was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday, June 2nd, but you might not be aware that she decided to use a traditional Klingon bat’leth to do it!
Okay, just kidding, but the picture was so great I had to share. Congratulations to Patrick!
According to the BBC, 69-year-old Stewart dedicated his knighthood to his former teacher Cecil Dormand who encouraged him to consider acting as a career.
“He was the one that put a copy of Shakespeare in my hand [and] said, ‘Now get up on your feet and perform’.”
Stewart joins his childhood heroes Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Gielgud and Sir Alec Guinness in becoming a theatrical knight. (Yes, that’s really what they call it.)
